We're All In This..
After watching Selma (and being a cry baby) so many things come to mind. But one of the things that stick out to me (out of the numerous things that are so apparent) is African Americans are not the only ones that wanted justice for all. I think a lot of times, especially in the times that we are in now Black people seem to forget that it is not just them who want justice and equal treatment for their people but for all people. White members of the community came to the aide of Dr. King and black people not just because they felt sorry for them but because (I believe) they were moved in their hearts and knew that what the African Americans were fighting for was right but how they were being treated was not. So I wanted to share this to make individuals aware that you are not alone. There are people willing to help you. They may not look like you and they may come from somewhere you are not familiar with, but the goal is still the same.
Probably the shortest blog I will ever post but when you are emotional as I was and had things on my mind I had to write it out while it's fresh. If you haven't seen Selma yet, I highly recommend it. Although we know the history of Dr. Martin Luther King sometimes you have to be reminded of it. I think this movie was very inclusive in how it portrayed the events. We have to keep this memory alive and remember what was done for the progress that we have now.

I love the movie I cried as well, at one point I had to step out for a moment. I give it a thumbs up I completely agree with the above statement. However I will bring a new spin on the topic.
ReplyDeleteSelma brought on a lot of controversy in different states. It was even questionable if it would be allowed in theaters. This brought a question to my mind. "Why is this so controversial"?
The argument over “Selma’s” accuracy is far from the first time that a historically themed movie has been accused of blurring the line between art and fact. But this dispute comes as some of the themes of “Selma” are being replayed in today’s headlines and as protests have erupted in the wake of incidents in which African Americans have died at the hands of law enforcement.
That is because Johnson and King’s relationship was a partnership of two shrewd Southerners who had common goals but sometimes conflicting priorities. More conflicting then we would ever know!
