We All Want To Be Each Other

I'm sure all of us have struggled with some aspects of ourselves. Me personally, I struggled with my height, and my looks. So of course when you're not confident in the way you look, it affects your interaction with others and how you present yourself. Now that I am older and love what I previously struggled with, people tell me that they wish they were taller! And it really throws me off sometimes because all I can think is "I wanted to be short!" An article that I came across on a Natural hair blog I frequent sparked the idea on this subject because it is so common. The article talked about skin color in the African-American community. The writer was a lighter skinned Black girl who wanted darker skin so she spray tanned. But it's well known how in the African-American community there are rooted differences in lighter and darker skinned African Americans so this article sparked conversation. The movement for accepting and loving the skin color that you are is a recent occurrence. But this is not just limited to African Americans. This can apply to weight,, hair types, even glasses wearing. Think about it, people want to be tall, others want to be short, some want to be skinny others want to
put on a little weight (healthily).

Here's the thing, we all eventually go either one of two ways, we either A) change our looks to make us happy or B) eventually love the way we look and OWN IT Hunny! But the problems arise when we compare ourselves to others. We think that we are inadequate and this belief can potentially be dangerous. I want to say love the way you look but it's okay if you don't. In fact I think to a certain extent it's normal because everyone has struggled with that. We all have wanted to change something about ourselves. I think that you should question though why you feel uncomfortable with your looks. What is the reasoning behind why you want to change the way you look. Is it because of others? Or personally motivated? Whatever the reason, you have control over it. But I will say this, although we all want to be accepted by others, don't make others happy by changing your looks, make yourself happy. If you do it for others, then those people leave your life who will remain to be your motivation? Ultimately (as my pastor often says) "Where you go, there you are" Be your own reason. Because You have to live with yourself. At the end of the day everyone has an opinion. If you want to lift weights because it would make you feel better about your arms do it! If you think you could manage to lose a few pounds go for it! But don't let changing yourself be your downfall by engaging in a dangerous behavior like skin bleaching or extreme tanning. Anything you engage in do your research and make an educated decision. But at the end of the day love yourself and do what will make you happy (within reason)
