Artist Spotlight: Tell Your Story

The saxophone is such a gorgeous instrument ! Those who can wield its power well.... yeah haha So meet Shaquim Muldrow. One who can maneuver this amazing instrument and its powerful sounds.

Shaquim is a Jazz saxophonist (primarily tenor, alto, and baritone). His story begins in the high school marching band, where he played all four years. From there he came in contact with Dr. Butler, a man who gave Shaquim a chance to audition for Claflin University... he got in obtaining a full ride scholarship. While there Shaquim played in a variety of shows and events such as operas, musicals, in an orchestra, as well as a jazz ensemble.

Shaquim's philosophy while playing is to say something. He was always told to tell a story by his high school jazz director Director Jay Jehl. By being told this, Shaquim's style changed. He wants to appeal to his audience emotionally and have them leave with an understanding of his personality and his playing.

So what can we look forward to for Mr. Muldrow in the future? Well he is planning on getting a Bachelors in Jazz studies, then grad school to earn a doctorates in musical arts. Eventually he wants to either join or start a jazz band to tour and record. He also would like to begin a career as university professor.

I can say for one that I do love that philosophy to tell a story. It makes your performance more personal. Everyone will take something different but it still touches everyone in a personal way.. AND I love the saxophone !

Great Job and Good Luck in your future goals !
