Intentions and Motivation
Sometimes I find myself thinking about what my motivation and intentions are behind my actions. Sometimes those two words are used interchangeably can/should they be?
According to dictionary.com
Intentions are defined as: the end or object intended; purpose.
Motivation is defined as: the act or an instance of motivating, or providing with a reason to act in a certain way
According to Google
Intention: the thing intended, an aim or plan
Motivation: the reason or reasons one has for acting in a particular way
Your intentions, to me, is why you did what you did. (because that makes a lot of sense right?) There was a certain reason for the action that you just participated in. Intention can be either positive or negative whether we know it or not. Personally sometimes I may think about doing something then when I think about it, I wonder why do I want to do that? The reason behind your action is intention
Motivation on the other hand, to me, is like a mindset. It's setting a goal then based on what that goal is, acting accordingly so you can reach that goal. So example: I'm motivated to graduate from college because I want to be successful in life. So to graduate, I study, I do my assignments, I do what I have to do to get to where I want to be all with that end goal in mind.
Now I may be completely wrong, you may have different definitions of these two terms....or may disagree with me so tell me....
How do you feel about your motivations and intentions? How do they drive your everyday life? Can they be used to mean the same thing??

Motivation and intentions aren't terms that can be used interchangably although they do tie closely with one another.
ReplyDeleteEveryone in this world has intentions of some sort, no one blindly goes into a situation without the thoughts of how they want things to go; whether it happens that way or not.
Motivation on the other hand, as you said, is what drives you to do what you have to do.
True I can understand that. Thanks for the comment!
