Don't Ever Play Yourself
Have you ever downplayed a unique accomplishment that you've achieved? I do this a lot more than I should.
Examples: Getting accepted into my graduate program, getting called for a job opportunity, even getting picked after an audition (which I thought I did terrible in!) to be a part of a modeling agency.
As an introvert, I believe that I am so used to being in the background and out of the spotlight that when big things happen I brush them them off as something that happens to anyone. Anybody can audition and get picked. Anybody can apply for a school. "Yeah the graduate class is actually pretty big so it's no big deal really." But it is. Any accomplishment that you or I achieve should be praised. Because things could have gone the other way. I remember when I got a call-back from the modeling agency and while sitting in the room for our meeting, the director said "You should be proud of yourself, we audition X amounts of individuals every week and we only pick Y amounts of individuals for call-backs." Or realizing that it is a big deal to get into a graduate school program because its not that easy.... (The Application/Personal Statement/Letter of Intent along with a $50 application fee alone is enough to make you want to give up). I think my mom said it best (not a direct quote but to sum it up) she said that a lot of times the work to get into graduate school counts. Because a lot of individuals are not willing to do what it takes to get to that next step.
So here's the take away, like the title says (thanks to DJ. Khaled lol) Don't Ever Play Yourself. Every accomplishment matters, No matter if its big like getting a Masters Degree or a Ph.D. or you getting a job interview! It is progression and should not be taken lightly.
-Until Next Time :)
