We Need Empathy
I wanted to write a short post on something that is so rare nowadays seemingly....We have all heard of sympathy but what about its cousin Empathy....?
Definition(According to Google): The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
This, I believe is something that is in very Very short supply. In order to empathize with someone, you have to have the ability to listen/view their situation, place yourself in their shoes and realize how the situation that they may be dealing with is affecting them emotionally. It takes a caring and non-selfish heart to really empathize with someone.
The reason that I chose to write on this subject was the idea that lately I've been browsing comment sections on Facebook post about a variety of things and with many situations happening in the world today and like noses everyone has an opinion on the person or situation presented. I believe that empathy is key when having a discussion with someone who may have an opposing view point than yours. Understanding where that person is coming from and either accepting their view (not as your own per se but understanding their point) or agreeing to disagree and moving on. Everyone wants to be right. Fact: This Can't Be.
The point I'm trying to make in this seeming ramble is empathy is important. Not just when you see someone who is struggling or is emotionally distressed but it's also important when you are having everyday conversation, when you are trying to sort out a problem, or when you are just dealing with people in general. I'm not saying you have to walk the whole day in their shoes; what I am saying is be mindful of how you interact with others. You never know what someone is going through...
-Until Next Time
**Sorry my writing consistency is terrible, I'm a work in progress**
